Welcome to the Read-Along! Each week, you will find a summary of that week’s readings, along with discussion points if you are wanting to read with a friend or join The Enchanted Book Nook for a broader book discussion.
Summary:
In these chapters we travel between Feltus and Alturis through the perilous Grimaldi Woods. Not everyone is who they say they are, and danger can sometimes lurk in our own shadows.
However, where there is darkness, there must also be light. Nienna will discover more about herself and what she hopes to accomplish with her life as we dive into this week’s section.
We will also get a glimpse at Alturis’s spectacular summer solstice celebration.
Discussion points:
- One of the big themes in this novel is “Light does more when shared.” What do you think this means? How can you share your light?
- When the Hein Wolves attack, Tellen reveals who he truly is to the rest of Nienna’s party. Would you have done the same or would you have kept your secret?
- What would you do if you suddenly discovered that you had magic? What would you do with it?
- Alturis was the one place Nienna had always wanted to be. In what ways do you think she has changed since returning from Feltus?
Fun Facts:
- The dress Nienna wears to the dance in this section was inspired by the purple and yellow dress Padme Amedala wears in Stars Wars: Attack of the Clones while hiding on Naboo.
- On a night-time ride through the mountains of Idaho, my group and I were followed by a pack of wolves. Thankfully, we never had any trouble, but knowing it could have been a very scary incident has never left me. This is where the inspiration of a wolf attacking a group of riders came.
- Alturis will always be one place I want to visit, simply to see the summer solstice celebration in real life. The Columbia Basin in Oregon, specifically Multnomah Falls, was what this setting was based on.
- I also wrote a song to go along with Tellen and Nienna’s dance. Though I can’t take credit for the music, all the words are mine and sung in my voice.
