If you would like an editorial review for your own book with content ratings, you can contact me directly, or request me as your reviewer on Reedsy Discovery.

Disclaimer: The more I write, the more I critique books harder on plot structure and how the various elements work together. Thus my reviews reflect this. However, if you see a book appear on the blog, it’s because I enjoyed reading and thought you, as a fellow bookie, would enjoy it as well. As always, reading is subjective and what resonates with me may not resonate with you. And that’s OK! We’re in this to discover new books that are family appropriate and worth taking the time to read.

My Review:

Four yellow stars out of five, indicating a strong rating for a book review.

I’ve been a follower of Amy Porterfield for several years and was thrilled when she announced she was writing a self-help book. She is a fantastic teacher and one I always keep fresh in my podcast library. If you have followed her for any length of time, some of this information will be familiar.

However, this is the first time I have seen it streamlined into a step-by-step process.

Two Weeks Notice is a great resource for anyone trying to leave the 9-5 grind. It provides actionable steps at the end of each chapter along with reflection questions. There is so much pact into those 252 pages that you need to digest it in small spurts. Otherwise, the information can be overwhelming. (If you listen to the audiobook, you will especially need to take breaks, digest, and write your action items down.)

In this book, Amy walks you through the exact process she used to quit her prestigious job with Tony Robbins and branch out on her own. She also provides some mistakes she made along the way with ways to help you avoid similar situations.

As this book was written for those who are trying to escape working for someone else, I didn’t find everything relevant to me. I have been an entrepreneur for most of my life. Yet, reading this book helped me realize I can improve in my current business. I can take more decisive action. I can also be better about giving myself hard deadlines when a project needs to be off my list.

The resources at the back of the book are also very helpful. Amy gives so much actionable advice that you can’t help but improve your business efforts.

How I rated this book:

  • Structure: 9/10; The information for each chapter is easy to read as well as providing action steps and discussion points at the end of each chapter.
  • Language: 1/10; Amy does a great job of keeping profanities out of her podcasts and books.
  • Violence: 1/10; No violence is ever mentioned.
  • Sexual Content: 1/10; No examples of spicy or steamy content was used.

Conclusion:

If you are ready to start your own business or get it going better, Amy’s book should be on your shelf.
